The Lord's Warrior and Judgment on Idols
The Lord breaks his long silence and goes out as a warrior against his enemies. He lays mountains waste and turns rivers into dry land, but at the same time leads the blind on unknown paths and makes darkness into light before them. Those who trust in carved images must retreat in shame.
Jesaja 42,13-17
13The LORD marches out like a warrior; like a man of war he stirs up his zeal. He shouts, yes, he raises the battle cry; he prevails against his enemies.
יְהוָה֙ כַּגִּבּ֣וֹר יֵצֵ֔א כְּאִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמ֖וֹת יָעִ֣יר קִנְאָ֑ה יָרִ֙יעַ֙ אַף־יַצְרִ֔יחַ עַל־אֹיְבָ֖יו יִתְגַּבָּֽר׃ ס
14For a long time I have kept silent; I have been quiet and held myself back. But now, like a woman in labor, I groan; I gasp and pant all at once.
הֶחֱשֵׁ֙יתִי֙ מֵֽעוֹלָ֔ם אַחֲרִ֖ישׁ אֶתְאַפָּ֑ק כַּיּוֹלֵדָ֣ה אֶפְעֶ֔ה אֶשֹּׁ֥ם וְאֶשְׁאַ֖ף יָֽחַד׃
15I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I will turn rivers into islands and dry up the pools.
אַחֲרִ֤יב הָרִים֙ וּגְבָע֔וֹת וְכָל־עֶשְׂבָּ֖ם אוֹבִ֑ישׁ וְשַׂמְתִּ֤י נְהָרוֹת֙ לֽ͏ָאִיִּ֔ים וַאֲגַמִּ֖ים אוֹבִֽישׁ׃
16I will lead the blind by a way they do not know; along unfamiliar paths I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
וְהוֹלַכְתִּ֣י עִוְרִ֗ים בְּדֶ֙רֶךְ֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ בִּנְתִיב֥וֹת לֹֽא־יָדְע֖וּ אַדְרִיכֵ֑ם אָשִׂים֩ מַחְשָׁ֨ךְ לִפְנֵיהֶ֜ם לָא֗וֹר וּמַֽעֲקַשִּׁים֙ לְמִישׁ֔וֹר אֵ֚לֶּה הַדְּבָרִ֔ים עֲשִׂיתִ֖ם וְלֹ֥א עֲזַבְתִּֽים׃
17But those who trust in idols, who say to images of metal, "You are our gods," will be turned back in utter shame.
נָסֹ֤גוּ אָחוֹר֙ יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ בֹ֔שֶׁת הַבֹּטְחִ֖ים בַּפָּ֑סֶל הָאֹמְרִ֥ים לְמַסֵּכָ֖ה אַתֶּ֥ם אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ ס
