The Lord's Promise to Restore the Mountains of Israel
The Lord speaks to the mountains of Israel and promises that they will become fertile and inhabited again, while the surrounding nations will bear their shame for having plundered the land. The prophecy promises that the ruins will be rebuilt and that the land will be cultivated and sown once more Ezekiel 36:1-15.
Hesekiel 36,1-15
1And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־אָדָ֔ם הִנָּבֵ֖א אֶל־הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ הָרֵי֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־יְהוָֽה׃
2This is what the Lord GOD says: Because the enemy said of you, "Aha! The ancient heights have become ours to possess,"
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה יַ֣עַן אָמַ֧ר הָאוֹיֵ֛ב עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם הֶאָ֑ח וּבָמ֣וֹת עוֹלָ֔ם לְמֽוֹרָשָׁ֖ה הָ֥יְתָה לָּֽנוּ׃
3therefore prophesy and say: This is what the Lord GOD says: Because they made you desolate and swallowed you up from every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and because you were made the object of gossip and slander among the people,
לָכֵן֙ הִנָּבֵ֣א וְאָמַרְתָּ֔ כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה יַ֣עַן בְּיַ֡עַן שַׁמּוֹת֩ וְשָׁאֹ֨ף אֶתְכֶ֜ם מִסָּבִ֗יב לִֽהְיוֹתְכֶ֤ם מֽוֹרָשָׁה֙ לִשְׁאֵרִ֣ית הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וַתֵּֽעֲל֛וּ עַל־שְׂפַ֥ת לָשׁ֖וֹן וְדִבַּת־עָֽם׃
4therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys, to the desolate ruins and the abandoned cities that have become plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around.
לָכֵן֙ הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְ֠הוִה לֶהָרִ֨ים וְלַגְּבָע֜וֹת לָאֲפִיקִ֣ים וְלַגֵּאָי֗וֹת וְלֶחֳרָב֤וֹת הַשֹּֽׁמְמוֹת֙ וְלֶעָרִ֣ים הַנֶּעֱזָב֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָי֤וּ לְבַז֙ וּלְלַ֔עַג לִשְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִסָּבִֽיב׃ ס
5Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely in the fire of my zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations and against all of Edom, who with wholehearted joy and utter contempt claimed my land as their own possession, to plunder its pastureland.
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַר֮ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒ אִם־לֹ֠א בְּאֵ֨שׁ קִנְאָתִ֥י דִבַּ֛רְתִּי עַל־שְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם וְעַל־אֱד֣וֹם כֻּלָּ֑א אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתְנֽוּ־אֶת־אַרְצִ֣י ׀ לָ֠הֶם לְמ֨וֹרָשָׁ֜ה בְּשִׂמְחַ֤ת כָּל־לֵבָב֙ בִּשְׁאָ֣ט נֶ֔פֶשׁ לְמַ֥עַן מִגְרָשָׁ֖הּ לָבַֽז׃
6Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel and say to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: This is what the Lord GOD says: See, I have spoken in my zeal and my wrath, because you have borne the insults of the nations.
לָכֵ֕ן הִנָּבֵ֖א עַל־אַדְמַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֡ לֶהָרִ֣ים וְ֠לַגְּבָעוֹת לָאֲפִיקִ֨ים וְלַגֵּאָי֜וֹת כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה הִנְנִ֨י בְקִנְאָתִ֤י וּבַחֲמָתִי֙ דִּבַּ֔רְתִּי יַ֛עַן כְּלִמַּ֥ת גּוֹיִ֖ם נְשָׂאתֶֽם׃
7Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have raised my hand and sworn that the nations around you shall themselves bear their own disgrace.
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אֲנִ֖י נָשָׂ֣אתִי אֶת־יָדִ֑י אִם־לֹ֤א הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָכֶ֣ם מִסָּבִ֔יב הֵ֖מָּה כְּלִמָּתָ֥ם יִשָּֽׂאוּ׃
8But you, mountains of Israel, will put out your branches and yield your fruit for my people Israel, for they are soon to come home.
וְאַתֶּ֞ם הָרֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ עַנְפְּכֶ֣ם תִּתֵּ֔נוּ וּפֶרְיְכֶ֥ם תִּשְׂא֖וּ לְעַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֥י קֵרְב֖וּ לָבֽוֹא׃
9For I am for you; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown.
כִּ֖י הִנְנִ֣י אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם וּפָנִ֣יתִי אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְנֶעֱבַדְתֶּ֖ם וְנִזְרַעְתֶּֽם׃
10I will multiply people upon you, the whole house of Israel, all of it. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֤י עֲלֵיכֶם֙ אָדָ֔ם כָּל־בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כֻּלֹּ֑ה וְנֹֽשְׁבוּ֙ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים וְהֶחֳרָב֖וֹת תִּבָּנֶֽינָה׃
11I will multiply people and animals upon you; they will increase and be fruitful. I will settle you as you were before and will do you more good than at the beginning. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֧י עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם אָדָ֥ם וּבְהֵמָ֖ה וְרָב֣וּ וּפָר֑וּ וְהוֹשַׁבְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֜ם כְּקַדְמֽוֹתֵיכֶ֗ם וְהֵטִֽבֹתִי֙ מֵרִאשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
12I will cause people to walk upon you—my people Israel. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; never again will you rob them of their children.
וְהוֹלַכְתִּי֩ עֲלֵיכֶ֨ם אָדָ֜ם אֶת־עַמִּ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וִֽירֵשׁ֔וּךָ וְהָיִ֥יתָ לָהֶ֖ם לְנַחֲלָ֑ה וְלֹא־תוֹסִ֥ף ע֖וֹד לְשַׁכְּלָֽם׃ ס
13This is what the Lord GOD says: Because people say to you, "You devour human beings and rob your own nation of its children,"
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה יַ֚עַן אֹמְרִ֣ים לָכֶ֔ם אֹכֶ֥לֶת אָדָ֖ם *אתי **אָ֑תְּ וּמְשַׁכֶּ֥לֶת *גויך **גּוֹיַ֖יִךְ הָיִֽית׃
14therefore you will devour people no more and never again bereave your nation of its children, declares the Lord GOD.
לָכֵ֗ן אָדָם֙ לֹא־תֹ֣אכְלִי ע֔וֹד *וגויך **וְגוֹיַ֖יִךְ לֹ֣א *תכשלי־**תְשַׁכְּלִי־ע֑וֹד נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃
15I will not let you hear the insults of the nations any longer; you will no longer bear the scorn of the peoples, and you will never again cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord GOD.
וְלֹא־אַשְׁמִ֨יעַ אֵלַ֤יִךְ עוֹד֙ כְּלִמַּ֣ת הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וְחֶרְפַּ֥ת עַמִּ֖ים לֹ֣א תִשְׂאִי־ע֑וֹד *וגויך **וְגוֹיַ֙יִךְ֙ לֹא־תַכְשִׁ֣לִי ע֔וֹד נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ ס
