Jeesuksen kärsimys

Jesus Anointed in Bethany

In Bethany, a woman anoints Jesus with expensive nard oil. According to Matthew and Mark, she anoints his head in the house of Simon the Leper, while according to John, Mary anoints his feet. The disciples react against what they see as waste, but Jesus defends her, saying she has prepared him for burial.

Matteuksen evankeliumi 26,6-13

6While Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and she poured it over his head as he reclined at the table.
8When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they said.
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ ἠγανάκτησαν λέγοντες· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη;
9"This could have been sold for a great deal and the money given to the poor."
10But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why are you troubling this woman? She has done a beautiful thing for me.
11You will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
12When she poured this perfume on my body, she was preparing me for burial.
13Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in all the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

Markuksen evankeliumi 14,3-9

3While he was in Bethany, reclining at table in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume over his head.
4Some of those present were indignant. "Why this waste of perfume?" they said to one another.
ἦσαν δέ τινες ἀγανακτοῦντες πρὸς ⸀ἑαυτούς· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη τοῦ μύρου γέγονεν;
5"It could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor." And they scolded her harshly.
6But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you troubling her? She has done a beautiful thing for me.
7The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you wish. But you will not always have me.
8She has done what she could. She has anointed my body in advance for burial.
9Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in all the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

Johanneksen evankeliumi 12,1-8

1Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
2So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
3Then Mary took a pound of costly perfume, pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, the one who was about to betray him, said,
5"Why wasn't this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?"
Διὰ τί τοῦτο τὸ μύρον οὐκ ἐπράθη τριακοσίων δηναρίων καὶ ἐδόθη πτωχοῖς;
6He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the money box and used to take what was put into it.
7So Jesus said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial.
8The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me."
