Job's Endurance as an Example
James points to the prophets who spoke in the Lord's name as examples of suffering and patience, highlighting Job's endurance. He reminds us how the Lord brought a good end for Job, because the Lord is rich in mercy and full of compassion.
Jaakobin kirje 5,10-11
10Brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as your example of suffering and patience.
ὑπόδειγμα λάβετε, ⸀ἀδελφοί, τῆς κακοπαθίας καὶ τῆς μακροθυμίας τοὺς προφήτας, οἳ ἐλάλησαν ⸀ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου.
11See, we call those blessed who endured. You have heard of Job's endurance, and you have seen the outcome the Lord brought about—for the Lord is deeply compassionate and merciful.
ἰδοὺ μακαρίζομεν τοὺς ⸀ὑπομείναντας· τὴν ὑπομονὴν Ἰὼβ ἠκούσατε, καὶ τὸ τέλος κυρίου ⸀εἴδετε, ὅτι πολύσπλαγχνός ἐστιν ⸂ὁ κύριος⸃ καὶ οἰκτίρμων.
