The Law of the Female Captive Taken as a Wife

Rules for how an Israelite man must treat a beautiful woman he takes as a captive in war: she shall shave her head and trim her nails, remove her captive's garments, and mourn for her father and mother for a full month before he may take her as his wife. He must not sell her or exploit her, because he has humiliated her.

5. Mooseksen kirja 21,10-14

10When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD your God hands them over to you and you take captives,
11and you see among the captives a beautiful woman and are drawn to her and would take her as your wife,
12then you shall bring her into your house. She must shave her head, trim her nails,
13and put aside the clothes she was captured in. She shall live in your house and mourn her father and mother a full month. After that you may go to her and be her husband, and she will be your wife.
14But if you are not pleased with her, you shall let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her for money or treat her as a slave, since you have humiliated her.
