Jeesuksen vertaukset

The Lamp Under a Bowl and Bed

Jesus uses the image of a lamp that is not placed under a bowl or under a bed, but on the candelabrum, to illustrate that nothing is hidden without it being revealed. He encourages his listeners to pay attention to what they hear, for with the measure they use, it will be measured back to them, and whoever has will receive more.

Markuksen evankeliumi 4,21-25

21He also said to them, "Does anyone bring in a lamp to put it under a basket or under a bed? Doesn't he put it on a stand?
Καὶ ἔλεγεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Μήτι ⸂ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος⸃ ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ ἢ ὑπὸ τὴν κλίνην, οὐχ ἵνα ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν ⸀τεθῇ;
22For nothing is hidden except to be revealed, and nothing is concealed except to be brought out into the open.
23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."
24And he said to them, "Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and more besides.
25For to the one who has, more will be given; and from the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away."
