Remembering Amalek
An exhortation to remember what Amalek did to Israel on the way out of Egypt, when he attacked those who were exhausted and lagging behind. When the Lord gives rest from all enemies in the promised land, Israel must blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.
5. Mooseksen kirja 25,17-19
17Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt:
זָכ֕וֹר אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה לְךָ֖ עֲמָלֵ֑ק בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ בְּצֵאתְכֶ֥ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃
18how they met you on the road and cut down all who were straggling behind, when you were weary and worn out; they had no fear of God.
אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָֽרְךָ֜ בַּדֶּ֗רֶךְ וַיְזַנֵּ֤ב בְּךָ֙ כָּל־הַנֶּחֱשָׁלִ֣ים אַֽחַרֶ֔יךָ וְאַתָּ֖ה עָיֵ֣ף וְיָגֵ֑עַ וְלֹ֥א יָרֵ֖א אֱלֹהִֽים׃
19Therefore, when the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
וְהָיָ֡ה בְּהָנִ֣יחַ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֣יךָ ׀ לְ֠ךָ מִכָּל־אֹ֨יְבֶ֜יךָ מִסָּבִ֗יב בָּאָ֙רֶץ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְהוָֽה־אֱ֠לֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵ֨ן לְךָ֤ נַחֲלָה֙ לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ תִּמְחֶה֙ אֶת־זֵ֣כֶר עֲמָלֵ֔ק מִתַּ֖חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם לֹ֖א תִּשְׁכָּֽח׃ פ
