Paul's Prayer for His Return and Holiness
Paul expresses his deep gratitude to God for the church in Thessalonica and earnestly prays to see them again to complete what is lacking in their faith. He asks that God and the Lord Jesus will direct their hearts, and that they may grow and overflow with love for one another and for all people. He also prays that the Lord will strengthen their hearts so that they may stand blameless in holiness at the coming of Jesus with all his saints.
1. Tessalonikalaiskirje 3,9-13
9How can we thank God enough for you, for all the joy we have because of you in the presence of our God,
τίνα γὰρ εὐχαριστίαν δυνάμεθα τῷ θεῷ ἀνταποδοῦναι περὶ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ χαρᾷ ᾗ χαίρομεν διʼ ὑμᾶς ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν,
10as night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and complete what is lacking in your faith?
νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ δεόμενοι εἰς τὸ ἰδεῖν ὑμῶν τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ καταρτίσαι τὰ ὑστερήματα τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν;
11Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, clear the way for us to come to you.
Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ ἡμῶν καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν ⸀Ἰησοῦς κατευθύναι τὴν ὁδὸν ἡμῶν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·
12And may the Lord make your love increase and overflow for one another and for everyone, just as ours does for you,
ὑμᾶς δὲ ὁ κύριος πλεονάσαι καὶ περισσεύσαι τῇ ἀγάπῃ εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας, καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς εἰς ὑμᾶς,
13so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας ἀμέμπτους ἐν ἁγιωσύνῃ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν ⸀Ἰησοῦ μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων ⸀αὐτοῦ.
