Justification by Faith – Romans

In Romans, Paul sets forth the core of the gospel: All people have sinned but are justified through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works of the law.

Roomalaiskirje 3,21-31

21But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, attested by the law and the prophets—
22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ, for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
23all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
25God presented him as the atoning sacrifice, received through faith in his blood, to demonstrate his righteousness—because in his forbearance he had passed over the sins committed beforehand—
26to demonstrate his righteousness in the present time, so that he might be both just and the one who justifies the person who has faith in Jesus.
27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? Of works? No, but on the principle of faith.
28For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of the Gentiles too? Yes, of the Gentiles too,
30since God is one—and he will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
31Do we then abolish the law through faith? By no means! Rather, we uphold the law.

Roomalaiskirje 5,1-11

1Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Through him we have also gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
4endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
5And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
6For while we were still helpless, at just the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
7Rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might perhaps dare to die.
8But God proves his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9How much more, then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from God's wrath!
10For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
11And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
