Solomon's Wealth and Power

Description of King Solomon's immense wealth: 666 talents of gold annually, two hundred large and three hundred small shields of beaten gold, a magnificent throne of ivory overlaid with pure gold with lions on the steps, four thousand stalls for horses and twelve thousand horsemen, as well as merchant ships that every third year sailed to Tarshish bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in wealth and wisdom, and silver was as common as stones in Jerusalem.

2. Aikakirja 9,13-28

13The weight of the gold that came to Solomon in a single year was six hundred and sixty-six talents,
14not counting what the traveling merchants and traders brought in. All the kings of Arabia and the governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
15King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold, six hundred shekels of hammered gold going into each one, [footnote: The Hebrew does not state the unit of weight; "shekels" is supplied.]
16and three hundred small shields of hammered gold, three hundred shekels of gold going into each one. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.
17The king also made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold.
18The throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold attached to it. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them,
19and twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any kingdom.
20All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Silver was reckoned as nothing in the days of Solomon,
21for the king had a fleet of ships that sailed to Tarshish with Huram's servants. Once every three years the ships of Tarshish would return, bringing gold and silver, ivory, apes, and baboons. [footnote: The meaning of the Hebrew word rendered "baboons" is uncertain; it may refer to peacocks.]
22So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
23All the kings of the earth sought an audience with Solomon, to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.
24Each of them brought a gift: articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons, spices, horses, and mules — year after year.
25Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.
26He ruled over all the kings from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. [footnote: Hebrew "the River," a standard designation for the Euphrates.]
27The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as the sycamore-figs of the foothills.
28Horses were imported for Solomon from Egypt and from all other lands.
