Days of Sorrow and Famine After the Lord's Word
The Lord warns that the festivals will turn to sorrow and the songs into lamentation. The people shall dress in sackcloth and mourn as for an only son. Days of famine are coming to the land—not a famine of bread or water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will wander from sea to sea seeking the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
Aamos 8,10-12
10I will turn your festivals into mourning and all your songs into laments. I will put sackcloth on every waist and shave every head. I will make it like mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.
וְהָפַכְתִּ֨י חַגֵּיכֶ֜ם לְאֵ֗בֶל וְכָל־שִֽׁירֵיכֶם֙ לְקִינָ֔ה וְהַעֲלֵיתִ֤י עַל־כָּל־מָתְנַ֙יִם֙ שָׂ֔ק וְעַל־כָּל־רֹ֖אשׁ קָרְחָ֑ה וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ כְּאֵ֣בֶל יָחִ֔יד וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ כְּי֥וֹם מָֽר׃
11The days are coming," declares the Lord GOD, "when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.
הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ יָמִ֣ים בָּאִ֗ים נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה וְהִשְׁלַחְתִּ֥י רָעָ֖ב בָּאָ֑רֶץ לֹֽא־רָעָ֤ב לַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ וְלֹֽא־צָמָ֣א לַמַּ֔יִם כִּ֣י אִם־לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
12People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
וְנָעוּ֙ מִיָּ֣ם עַד־יָ֔ם וּמִצָּפ֖וֹן וְעַד־מִזְרָ֑ח יְשֽׁוֹטְט֛וּ לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת־דְּבַר־יְהוָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א יִמְצָֽאוּ׃
