Ahijah was a high-ranking official at King Solomon's court who held the position of palace administrator – the one responsible for the king's household. He is mentioned in the list of Solomon's chief officials in 1 Kings 4, where he is listed with the title "the one over the house". This position entailed responsibility for the daily operations of the royal palace, including management of supplies, servant staff, and ceremonial functions. Ahijah's role illustrates the sophisticated administrative apparatus that characterized Solomon's reign and which helped consolidate the united kingdom of Israel as a regional power.
