Eder was a Levite from the clan of Merari who served in the temple service under King David. He is mentioned in 1 Chronicles as part of the Levitical families organized for service in the sanctuary. Mentioned Among Merari's Descendants

Eder is listed as the son of Mushi, grandson of Merari, in the genealogy of the Levites during King David's organization of temple service.

23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all.

Organization of the Levites Under David

King David organized the Levites into divisions for service in the house of the Lord, and Eder was among those assigned tasks.

6David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Repeated in the Genealogical Record

Eder is mentioned again in 1 Chronicles chapter 24 as part of Merari's descendants during the allocation of service divisions.

30The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites, listed by their ancestral houses.

Mushi's Sons Without Daughters to Marry

It is noted that your brother Mahli had sons, but another lineage had only daughters who married their brothers' sons—a key point regarding inheritance rights among the Levites.
