Appointed to Serve Esther

Hatah was one of the king's chamberlains who was designated to serve Queen Esther personally at court.

5Then Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king's eunuchs assigned to attend her, and ordered him to go to Mordecai and find out what this was about and why.

Sent to Mordecai

When Esther heard that Mordecai was mourning in sackcloth and ashes, she sent Hatah out to find out what was wrong and why he was grieving.

5Then Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king's eunuchs assigned to attend her, and ordered him to go to Mordecai and find out what this was about and why.
6So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the city square in front of the king's gate,

Meeting with Mordecai at the City Square

Hatah went out to Mordecai on the open square before the king's gate to hear his message.

6So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the city square in front of the king's gate,

Received information about Haman's plan

Mordecai told Hatak everything that had happened to him, including the exact sum of money Haman had promised to pay into the king's treasury to have the Jews destroyed, and gave him a copy of the decree of destruction.

7and Mordecai told him everything that had happened to him, including the exact amount of silver Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews.
8He also gave him a copy of the written decree issued in Susa for their annihilation, to show Esther and explain it to her, and to charge her to go to the king to plead with him and beg him for her people.

Messenger between Mordecai and Esther

Hatak brought Mordecai's message and a copy of the decree back to Esther, and then conveyed Esther's reply back to Mordecai, where she explained her fear of approaching the king uninvited.

9Hathach returned and reported Mordecai's words to Esther.
10Then Esther told Hathach to take this message back to Mordecai:
11"All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that for any man or woman who goes to the king in the inner court without being summoned, there is but one law: death — unless the king extends the golden scepter and spares that person's life. And I have not been summoned to the king for thirty days now."
12When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai,

Delivered Mordecai's crucial appeal

Hatak delivered Mordecai's famous call to action to Esther, reminding her that perhaps she had come to her royal position for such a time as this.

13he sent back this reply: "Do not imagine that you alone of all the Jews will escape, because you are in the king's house.
14For if you keep silent at a time like this, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows? Perhaps you have come to the throne for just such a time as this."
