Mentioned in the High Priestly Lineage

Jaddua is mentioned as part of the high priestly genealogy in the book of Nehemiah, as the son of Eliashib and a link in the priestly succession.

10Jeshua fathered Joiakim, Joiakim fathered Eliashib, Eliashib fathered Joiada,
11Joiada fathered Jonathan, and Jonathan fathered Jaddua.

Temple Service After the Exile

Jaddua served as a central priest in Jerusalem during the period following the return from Babylon, when temple worship was restored.

22As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the heads of the fathers' houses were recorded, as were the priests, down to the reign of Darius the Persian.

Connection to Sanballat

One of Jaddua's sons married the daughter of Sanballat the Horonite, which led Nehemiah to drive him away because of mixed marriage.

28One of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite; I drove him away from me.

Registration of Priestly Heads

During Jehoiada's time, the priestly heads were registered in the genealogy of the Levites, which was important for preserving the integrity of the holy service.

22As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the heads of the fathers' houses were recorded, as were the priests, down to the reign of Darius the Persian.
23The sons of Levi who were heads of the fathers' houses were recorded in the Book of the Chronicles until the days of Johanan son of Eliashib.

Nehemiah's Reforms

Jehoiada lived during a period marked by Nehemiah's religious and social reforms, which included cleansing the priesthood and reinstating Sabbath observance.

28One of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite; I drove him away from me.
29Remember them, my God, because they defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites.
30So I purified them from everything foreign, and I assigned duties to the priests and Levites, each to his own task,
