Luke

The Beloved Physician

Luke was a physician and Paul's faithful companion. He is the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles—together nearly one-quarter of the New Testament. As the only non-Jewish biblical writer, he wrote thoroughly and with historical accuracy about Jesus' life and the early years of the church.

Travel Companion with Paul

Luke joined Paul in Troas and accompanied him on parts of his missionary journeys. The 'we' passages in Acts show his presence.

The Beloved Physician

Paul referred to Luke as 'the beloved physician' and his faithful companion.

Faithful to the End

When Paul was imprisoned in Rome for the last time, Luke was the only one who stayed with him.

Author of the Gospel

Luke wrote a detailed gospel for Theophilus, based on eyewitness accounts and careful investigation.

Historian of the Church

Luke continued his account in the Acts of the Apostles, which describes the church's growth from Jerusalem to Rome.
