Methuselah was the son of Enoch and the grandfather of Noah. He is best known for having lived longer than any other person in the Bible, a total of 969 years. His death occurred in the same year that the flood came upon the earth.

The Birth of Methuselah

Methuselah was born when his father Enoch was 65 years old. After Methuselah's birth, Enoch walked with God for 300 years.

21When Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he fathered Methuselah.
וַיְחִ֣י חֲנ֔וֹךְ חָמֵ֥שׁ וְשִׁשִּׁ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־מְתוּשָֽׁלַח׃ ‬
22After he fathered Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.
וַיִּתְהַלֵּ֨ךְ חֲנ֜וֹךְ אֶת־הֽ͏ָאֱלֹהִ֗ים אֽ͏ַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃ ‬

Methuselah Has a Son Named Lamek

When Methuselah was 187 years old, he had a son named Lamek, who later became the father of Noah.

25When Methuselah had lived one hundred eighty-seven years, he fathered Lamech.
וַיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־לָֽמֶךְ׃ ‬

The Longest Life

Methuselah lived 969 years, the longest life recorded in the Bible. He witnessed many generations and major changes in human history.

27In all, Methuselah lived nine hundred sixty-nine years, and then he died.
וַיִּהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח תֵּ֤שַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ פ ‬

Methuselah is mentioned in Jesus' genealogy in Luke, as part of the line from Adam to Christ through Noah and Seth.
