Simon of Cyrene

Simon of Cyrene was a man from the North African city of Cyrene who was forced by Roman soldiers to carry Jesus' cross on the way to Golgotha. He is one of the few people mentioned by name in connection with the crucifixion, and his sons Alexander and Rufus apparently became known in the early church.
