Levitical musician in the temple

Unni was a Levite who served as a musician in the temple service after returning from the Babylonian exile. He is mentioned among the Levites who participated in worship in Jerusalem during Nehemiah's time and played a role in restoring orderly worship in the rebuilt temple.

20Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play harps set to alamoth;
וּזְכַרְיָ֨ה וַעֲזִיאֵ֜ל וּשְׁמִֽירָמ֤וֹת וִֽיחִיאֵל֙ וְעֻנִּ֣י וֽ͏ֶאֱלִיאָ֔ב וּמַעֲשֵׂיָ֖הוּ וּבְנָיָ֑הוּ בִּנְבָלִ֖ים עַל־עֲלָמֽוֹת׃ ‬

Participation in musical service

Unni was among the Levites appointed to play musical instruments in connection with the transfer of the ark of God's covenant, as described in Chronicles.

Service with harps

Unni was appointed to play the harp along with other Levites in the orderly worship organized by King David.

Levitical lineage in Nehemiah's time

A Unni (or Unno) is also mentioned among the Levites who served during Nehemiah's governorship, showing that this name was known among the Levites in the post-exilic period.

9while Bakbukiah and Unni, their kinsmen, stood opposite them in the services.
