In Genesis 5:23–24 it states that Enoch lived 365 years before God took him away, making him unique among the patriarchs. The number 365 corresponds to the number of days in a solar year, and this has been interpreted as a symbol of cosmic completeness and harmony with God's creation. Enoch's lifespan thus seems to reflect a perfect cycle—a full year in God's eyes—and underscores his unique walk with God. In rabbinic tradition, the number 365 is connected with the 365 negative commandments (lo ta'aseh) in the Torah, corresponding to the number of days in the solar year. This connection emphasizes the idea of daily vigilance in the practice of faith—one commandment for each day (Makkot 23b). The figure of Enoch underwent rich development in apocryphal and pseudepigraphical literature, especially in the Book of Enoch (1 Enoch), where he is portrayed as a recipient of heavenly revelations. His 365 years of life were interpreted there in light of the solar calendar, which was central to the Qumran community.*
