The size of the tribe of Manasseh at the second census – a large tribal number without independent symbolism
The number 52000 appears in a biblical context linked to the census of the tribe of Manasseh. In Numbers 26:34, it is stated that the clans of Manasseh numbered 52700 registered men at the second census in the wilderness. 52000 makes up the bulk of this tribal total and testifies to the significant growth of Manasseh and God's blessing over the tribes of Joseph. Beyond this census context, the number 52000 has no independent symbolic meaning in traditional Jewish numerology or biblical interpretation. It does not appear as a distinct symbolic number in gematria or rabbinic literature. Manasseh was the son of Joseph and was counted as one of the twelve tribes of Israel through Jacob's adoption of Joseph's sons (Genesis 48). At the first census in Numbers 1:35, Manasseh numbered 32,200 men, which means a growth of over 60 percent to 52,700 at the second count – the largest percentage increase among the tribes. The two censuses in Numbers (chapters 1–4 and 26) were conducted with an interval of about 38 years and aimed to map Israel's military strength as well as form the basis for the distribution of land areas in the promised land.*
