Warning against the scribes
Jesus warns the crowd against the scribes who love honors, long prayers for show, and who exploit widows. He warns that they will receive a stricter judgment. Mark 12:38-40

38In his teaching he said, "Watch out for the scribes. They love to walk around in long robes and to be greeted in the marketplaces,
Καὶ ⸂ἐν τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ ἔλεγεν⸃· Βλέπετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων ἐν στολαῖς περιπατεῖν καὶ ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς
39to have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,
40They devour widows' houses and for show they say long prayers. These men will receive a heavier judgment."
οἱ κατεσθίοντες τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσευχόμενοι· οὗτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα.
