Discussion about cleansing
A discussion arises between John's disciples and a Jew about cleansing, which leads John to confirm his role as the friend of the bridegroom and state that Jesus must increase while he himself must decrease. John 3:25-30
Jean 3,25-30
25Now a dispute arose between John's disciples and a Jew about purification.
26They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, the one to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."
27John answered, "No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28You yourselves bear me witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent ahead of him.'
29The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom stands and listens for him, and he rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. This, then, is my joy, and it is complete.
30He must increase; I must decrease.
