The Lord's Servant and the New Covenant
God presents his chosen servant, upon whom he has placed his Spirit. The servant will bring justice to the nations without shouting or breaking a bruised reed. The Lord calls him in righteousness and gives him as a covenant for the people and a light for the nations, to open blind eyes and lead prisoners out of darkness. The Lord declares that he will not give his glory to another and proclaims new things before they spring forth Isaiah 42:1-9.
Ésaïe 42,1-9
1Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring justice to the nations.
הֵ֤ן עַבְדִּי֙ אֶתְמָךְ־בּ֔וֹ בְּחִירִ֖י רָצְתָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֑י נָתַ֤תִּי רוּחִי֙ עָלָ֔יו מִשְׁפָּ֖ט לַגּוֹיִ֥ם יוֹצִֽיא׃
2He will not cry out or raise his voice, nor make himself heard in the streets.
לֹ֥א יִצְעַ֖ק וְלֹ֣א יִשָּׂ֑א וְלֹֽא־יַשְׁמִ֥יעַ בַּח֖וּץ קוֹלֽוֹ׃
3A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice.
קָנֶ֤ה רָצוּץ֙ לֹ֣א יִשְׁבּ֔וֹר וּפִשְׁתָּ֥ה כֵהָ֖ה לֹ֣א יְכַבֶּ֑נָּה לֶאֱמֶ֖ת יוֹצִ֥יא מִשְׁפָּֽט׃
4He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice on the earth, and the coastlands will wait for his teaching.
לֹ֤א יִכְהֶה֙ וְלֹ֣א יָר֔וּץ עַד־יָשִׂ֥ים בָּאָ֖רֶץ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּלְתוֹרָת֖וֹ אִיִּ֥ים יְיַחֵֽילוּ׃ פ
5This is what God the LORD says—he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk on it:
כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר הָאֵ֣ל ׀ יְהוָ֗ה בּוֹרֵ֤א הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְנ֣וֹטֵיהֶ֔ם רֹקַ֥ע הָאָ֖רֶץ וְצֶאֱצָאֶ֑יהָ נֹתֵ֤ן נְשָׁמָה֙ לָעָ֣ם עָלֶ֔יהָ וְר֖וּחַ לַהֹלְכִ֥ים בָּֽהּ׃
6I am the LORD. I have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and appoint you to be a covenant for the people, a light for the nations,
אֲנִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה קְרָאתִ֥יךָֽ בְצֶ֖דֶק וְאַחְזֵ֣ק בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ וְאֶצָּרְךָ֗ וְאֶתֶּנְךָ֛ לִבְרִ֥ית עָ֖ם לְא֥וֹר גּוֹיִֽם׃
7to open blind eyes, to bring prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the house of confinement.
לִפְקֹ֖חַ עֵינַ֣יִם עִוְר֑וֹת לְהוֹצִ֤יא מִמַּסְגֵּר֙ אַסִּ֔יר מִבֵּ֥ית כֶּ֖לֶא יֹ֥שְׁבֵי חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃
8I am the LORD; that is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to idols.
אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה ה֣וּא שְׁמִ֑י וּכְבוֹדִי֙ לְאַחֵ֣ר לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֔ן וּתְהִלָּתִ֖י לַפְּסִילִֽים׃
9See, the former things have come to pass, and now I declare new things; before they spring up, I announce them to you.
הָרִֽאשֹׁנ֖וֹת הִנֵּה־בָ֑אוּ וַֽחֲדָשׁוֹת֙ אֲנִ֣י מַגִּ֔יד בְּטֶ֥רֶם תִּצְמַ֖חְנָה אַשְׁמִ֥יע אֶתְכֶֽם׃ פ
