The Man with the Measuring Line and the Promise of Jerusalem
In a vision, Zechariah sees a man with a measuring line who is to measure Jerusalem. An angel gives the message that the city will be open and populous, and the Lord himself promises to be a wall of fire around it and his glory in its midst.
Zacharie 2,5-9
5Then I lifted my eyes and looked, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand.
וָאֶשָּׂ֥א עֵינַ֛י וָאֵ֖רֶא וְהִנֵּה־אִ֑ישׁ וּבְיָד֖וֹ חֶ֥בֶל מִדָּֽה׃
6I asked, "Where are you going?" He said to me, "To measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is."
וָאֹמַ֕ר אָ֖נָה אַתָּ֣ה הֹלֵ֑ךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֗י לָמֹד֙ אֶת־יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִרְא֥וֹת כַּמָּֽה־רָחְבָּ֖הּ וְכַמָּ֥ה אָרְכָּֽהּ׃
7Then I saw the angel who was speaking with me going out, and another angel came out to meet him
וְהִנֵּ֗ה הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֥ר בִּ֖י יֹצֵ֑א וּמַלְאָ֣ךְ אַחֵ֔ר יֹצֵ֖א לִקְרָאתֽוֹ׃
8and said to him, "Run, tell that young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited as a city without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock within her.
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔ו רֻ֗ץ דַּבֵּ֛ר אֶל־הַנַּ֥עַר הַלָּ֖ז לֵאמֹ֑ר פְּרָזוֹת֙ תֵּשֵׁ֣ב יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם מֵרֹ֥ב אָדָ֛ם וּבְהֵמָ֖ה בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃
9And I myself will be a wall of fire around her, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within her."
וַאֲנִ֤י אֶֽהְיֶה־לָּהּ֙ נְאֻם־יְהוָ֔ה ח֥וֹמַת אֵ֖שׁ סָבִ֑יב וּלְכָב֖וֹד אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה בְתוֹכָֽהּ׃ פ
