Isaiah's Song of the Lord's Vineyard

Isaiah sings about a vineyard that the Lord planted and tended with care, but which produced only wild grapes. The vineyard is a picture of Israel, and God warns of judgment over the people's injustice.

Ésaïe 5,1-7

1Let me sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hillside.
2He broke up the soil and cleared it of stones and planted it with choice vines. He built a watchtower in the middle of it and hewed out a winepress as well. Then he waited for it to yield grapes, but it yielded only sour ones.
3So now, you who live in Jerusalem, you people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.
4What more could have been done for my vineyard that I did not do for it? Why, when I waited for it to yield grapes, did it yield only sour ones?
5Now let me tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled.
6I will make it a wasteland. It will not be pruned or hoed, and briers and thorns will grow up in it. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.
7The vineyard of the LORD of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are the planting he delighted in. He waited for justice, but look—bloodshed; for righteousness, but listen—a cry of distress.
