Jesus Weeps Over Jerusalem
When Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said: 'If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.' He warned that enemies would build a rampart against the city, surround it, and level it to the ground, leaving not one stone upon another, because it did not recognize the time when God visited it.
Luc 19,41-44
41As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it,
Καὶ ὡς ἤγγισεν, ἰδὼν τὴν πόλιν ἔκλαυσεν ἐπʼ ⸀αὐτήν,
42saying, "If you had only known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.
λέγων ὅτι Εἰ ἔγνως ⸂ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ καὶ σὺ⸃ τὰ πρὸς ⸀εἰρήνην— νῦν δὲ ἐκρύβη ἀπὸ ὀφθαλμῶν σου.
43The days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a siege wall against you, surround you, and hem you in on every side.
ὅτι ἥξουσιν ἡμέραι ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ ⸀παρεμβαλοῦσιν οἱ ἐχθροί σου χάρακά σοι καὶ περικυκλώσουσίν σε καὶ συνέξουσίν σε πάντοθεν,
44They will level you to the ground, you and your children within your walls, and they will not leave one stone on another in you, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."
καὶ ἐδαφιοῦσίν σε καὶ τὰ τέκνα σου ἐν σοί, καὶ οὐκ ἀφήσουσιν ⸂λίθον ἐπὶ λίθον ἐν σοί⸃, ἀνθʼ ὧν οὐκ ἔγνως τὸν καιρὸν τῆς ἐπισκοπῆς σου.
