The Warriors Who Joined David

An extensive list of the brave warriors from all the tribes of Israel who joined David – first in Ziklag and the mountain fortress while he was fleeing from Saul, and later in Hebron where they gathered to make him king over all Israel.

1 Chroniques 12,1-41

1These are the men who came to David at Ziklag, while he was still confined because of Saul son of Kish. They were among the mighty men who helped him in battle,
2armed with bows and able to shoot arrows or sling stones with either the right hand or the left. They were kinsmen of Saul, from Benjamin.

3Ahiezer was their chief, then Joash, both sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth; Berachah; Jehu of Anathoth;

8and Joelah and Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
9From the Gadites there went over to David at the stronghold in the wilderness mighty warriors, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear. Their faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles on the mountains.
10Ezer was the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,

14Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
15These were the commanders of the army from the sons of Gad; the least of them was a match for a hundred, and the greatest for a thousand.
16These were the men who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it was overflowing all its banks, and they drove off everyone living in the valleys, both east and west.
17Some of the men of Benjamin and Judah also came to David at the stronghold.
18David went out to meet them and said to them, "If you have come to me in peace, to help me, my heart will be joined to yours. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies, though there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers see it and judge."
19Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the thirty, and he said: "We are yours, David! We are with you, son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to those who help you, for your God helps you." So David received them and made them officers over his troops.
20Some men of Manasseh also went over to David when he marched with the Philistines against Saul—though they did not help the Philistines, for the Philistine rulers, after taking counsel, sent David away, saying, "He may go over to his master Saul at the cost of our heads."
21As he was going to Ziklag, these men of Manasseh went over to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22They helped David against the raiding bands, for they were all mighty warriors, and they became commanders in his army.
23Day after day men kept coming to David to help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God.
24These are the numbers of the armed troops who came to David at Hebron to turn the kingdom of Saul over to him, as the LORD had said:

29and Zadok, a young man and a mighty warrior, with twenty-two commanders from his father's house.

32From the half-tribe of Manasseh: 18,000, designated by name to come and make David king.

33From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do: 200 chiefs, with all their kinsmen under their command.

40They spent three days there with David, eating and drinking, for their kinsmen had provided for them.
41Their neighbors as well, from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought food on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen: flour, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep in abundance—for there was joy in Israel.
