Paul

Christ's Fragrance to the Saved and the Perishing

Paul thanks God, who always leads the apostles in triumph in Christ and spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him. They are a fragrance from Christ to God, both among those being saved and among those perishing—for some a fragrance from death to death, for others from life to life. Paul emphasizes that they do not peddle God's word but speak with sincerity before God in Christ.

2 Corinthiens 2,14-17

14But thanks be to God, who always leads us in his triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
15For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:
16to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. And who is equal to such a task?
οἷς μὲν ὀσμὴ ⸀ἐκ θανάτου εἰς θάνατον, οἷς δὲ ὀσμὴ ⸁ἐκ ζωῆς εἰς ζωήν. καὶ πρὸς ταῦτα τίς ἱκανός;
17For we are not like so many, peddling the word of God for profit. On the contrary, we speak in Christ with sincerity, as sent from God and standing in his presence.
