A man in the crowd asked Jesus to tell his brother to share the inheritance with him. Jesus replied that he was not appointed as a judge or arbitrator, and warned: "Beware of all greed! For a person's life does not consist in the abundance of what they possess." Then he told a parable: A rich man had land that produced well, and he did not know where to store his harvest. He decided to tear down his barns and build larger ones, gather all his grain and goods, and say to himself: "You have many good things stored up for many years. Rest easy, eat, drink and be merry!" But God said to him: "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Who then will get what you have gathered?" That is how it goes with the one who stores up treasures for themselves but is not rich toward God.
