Plans to kill Jesus
The chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the courtyard of the high priest Caiaphas to plot how they might arrest Jesus by deceit and kill him. They decided to wait until after the festival to avoid an uprising among the people.
Matthieu 26,3-5
3Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,
Τότε συνήχθησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τοῦ λεγομένου Καϊάφα,
4and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill him.
καὶ συνεβουλεύσαντο ἵνα τὸν Ἰησοῦν δόλῳ κρατήσωσιν καὶ ἀποκτείνωσιν·
5But they said, "Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people."
ἔλεγον δέ· Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ, ἵνα μὴ θόρυβος γένηται ἐν τῷ λαῷ.
