Arodi was one of the seven sons of Gad, who was the son of Jacob and Zilpah. He is mentioned among those who went down to Egypt with Jacob's family during the famine in Canaan. Arodi became the ancestor of the clan of the Arodites among Gad's descendants. In Numbers, he is referred to by the shorter name form Arod, where his clan is counted among Gad's families in the census on the plains of Moab.

The Journey to Egypt

Arodi was among the members of Jacob's household who traveled down to Egypt during the famine, where Joseph had already been placed in a position of power.

26All the persons belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt, his own direct descendants, not counting the wives of Jacob's sons, numbered sixty-six in all.
כָּל־הַ֠נֶּפֶשׁ הַבָּאָ֨ה לְיַעֲקֹ֤ב מִצְרַ֙יְמָה֙ יֹצְאֵ֣י יְרֵכ֔וֹ מִלְּבַ֖ד נְשֵׁ֣י בְנֵי־יַעֲקֹ֑ב כָּל־נֶ֖פֶשׁ שִׁשִּׁ֥ים וָשֵֽׁשׁ׃ ‬
27With the two sons born to Joseph in Egypt, the persons of Jacob's household who came to Egypt numbered seventy.

The Genealogy of the Arodites in the Census

In the book of Numbers, the genealogy of the Arodites is mentioned as one of the clans descended from Gad, during the census on the plains of Moab. Here, the shorter form of the name, Arod, is used.
