Beera was a son of Baal and a leader in the tribe of Reuben. He was taken into captivity by the Assyrian king Tilgat-Pilneser (Tiglath-Pileser III), which marked part of the Assyrian conquest of the northern tribes of Israel.
9and eastward he settled as far as the edge of the wilderness that reaches from the Euphrates River, for their livestock had increased greatly in the land of Gilead.
The eastern tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh were attacked and deported by the king of Assyria because they had been unfaithful to the God of their fathers.
25But they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.
26So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away—the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh—bringing them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, where they remain to this day.
