Evi was one of five Midianite kings who were killed by the Israelites in the war against Midian, on the Lord's command through Moses. He is mentioned together with the kings Rekem, Sur, Hur and Reba. These kings were vassals under the Amorite king Sihon, and their defeat was part of Israel's conquest of the promised land.

The War Against Midian
The Lord commanded Moses to wage war against the Midianites as punishment for leading Israel into idolatry at Peor. An army of 12,000 Israelites was sent out under the leadership of Phinehas.
6Moses sent them out to war, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, who took with him the holy vessels and the trumpets for sounding the alarm.
In addition to the five kings, the prophet Balaam son of Beor was also killed by the sword in that same battle, because he had given advice on how to lead Israel astray.
