Hanniel
Clan Leader of Manasseh
Hanniel, son of Ephod, was a leader from the tribe of Manasseh appointed by God to help distribute the land of Canaan among the tribes of Israel. He is mentioned among the tribal leaders responsible for allocating the inheritance west of the Jordan. Another Hanniel is mentioned as the son of Ulla from the tribe of Asher.

Appointed to Distribute the Land
God spoke to Moses and gave him the names of the men who were to distribute the land of Canaan as an inheritance among the tribes. Hanniel, son of Ephod, was chosen to represent the tribe of Manasseh.

Leaders for the Distribution of the Land Appointed
Together with Eleazar the priest and Joshua, Hanniel and the other tribal leaders were given authority to distribute the inherited land among the nine and a half tribes west of the Jordan.
17These are the names of the men who shall divide the land among you as your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
אֵ֚לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־יִנְחֲל֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ אֶלְעָזָר֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נֽוּן׃
18You shall also take one leader, one leader from each tribe, to apportion the land as an inheritance.
וְנָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֛ד נָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֖ד מִמַּטֶּ֑ה תִּקְח֖וּ לִנְחֹ֥ל אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
19And these are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
וְאֵ֖לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים לְמַטֵּ֣ה יְהוּדָ֔ה כָּלֵ֖ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּֽה׃
20from the tribe of Simeon, Shemuel son of Ammihud;
וּלְמַטֵּה֙ בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֔וֹן שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד׃
21from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Kislon;
לְמַטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֱלִידָ֖ד בֶּן־כִּסְלֽוֹן׃
22the leader from the tribe of Dan, Bukki son of Jogli;
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־דָ֖ן נָשִׂ֑יא בֻּקִּ֖י בֶּן־יָגְלִֽי׃
23from the sons of Joseph: the leader from the tribe of Manasseh, Hanniel son of Ephod,
לִבְנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה נָשִׂ֑יא חַנִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־אֵפֹֽד׃
24and the leader from the tribe of Ephraim, Kemuel son of Shiphtan;
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־אֶפְרַ֖יִם נָשִׂ֑יא קְמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־שִׁפְטָֽן׃
25the leader from the tribe of Zebulun, Elizaphan son of Parnach;
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־זְבוּלֻ֖ן נָשִׂ֑יא אֱלִיצָפָ֖ן בֶּן־פַּרְנָֽךְ׃
26the leader from the tribe of Issachar, Paltiel son of Azzan;
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־יִשָׂשכָ֖ר נָשִׂ֑יא פַּלְטִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַזָּֽן׃
27the leader from the tribe of Asher, Ahihud son of Shelomi;
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־אָשֵׁ֖ר נָשִׂ֑יא אֲחִיה֖וּד בֶּן־שְׁלֹמִֽי׃
28the leader from the tribe of Naphtali, Pedahel son of Ammihud.
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־נַפְתָּלִ֖י נָשִׂ֑יא פְּדַהְ[t]אֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד׃
29These are the men the LORD commanded to apportion the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
אֵ֕לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֑ה לְנַחֵ֥ל אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃ פ
Hanniel from the Tribe of Asher
Another man named Hanniel is mentioned as the son of Ulla, a descendant of the tribe of Asher, among the brave warriors and family heads in the tribal records of Israel.

Moses receives God's instructions on the distribution of the land
God instructed Moses on how the land of Canaan was to be distributed by casting lots, and appointed specific leaders from each tribe to carry out the distribution.
1The LORD said to Moses:
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
2Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the land that will fall to you as your inheritance — the land of Canaan with its boundaries.
צַ֞ו אֶת־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם כִּֽי־אַתֶּ֥ם בָּאִ֖ים אֶל־הָאָ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן זֹ֣את הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּפֹּ֤ל לָכֶם֙ בְּֽנַחֲלָ֔ה אֶ֥רֶץ כְּנַ֖עַן לִגְבֻלֹתֶֽיהָ׃
3Your southern side shall run from the Wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary shall begin at the end of the Salt Sea on the east,
וְהָיָ֨ה לָכֶ֧ם פְּאַת־נֶ֛גֶב מִמִּדְבַּר־צִ֖ן עַל־יְדֵ֣י אֱד֑וֹם וְהָיָ֤ה לָכֶם֙ גְּב֣וּל נֶ֔גֶב מִקְצֵ֥ה יָם־הַמֶּ֖לַח קֵֽדְמָה׃
4then turn south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continue on to Zin, and end south of Kadesh Barnea. From there it shall go on to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon,
וְנָסַ֣ב לָכֶם֩ הַגְּב֨וּל מִנֶּ֜גֶב לְמַעֲלֵ֤ה עַקְרַבִּים֙ וְעָ֣בַר צִ֔נָה *והיה **וְהָיוּ֙ תּֽוֹצְאֹתָ֔יו מִנֶּ֖גֶב לְקָדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֑עַ וְיָצָ֥א חֲצַר־אַדָּ֖ר וְעָבַ֥ר עַצְמֹֽנָה׃
5where it shall turn from Azmon to the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Sea.
וְנָסַ֧ב הַגְּב֛וּל מֵעַצְמ֖וֹן נַ֣חְלָה מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו הַיָּֽמָּה׃
6For your western boundary you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western boundary.
וּגְב֣וּל יָ֔ם וְהָיָ֥ה לָכֶ֛ם הַיָּ֥ם הַגָּד֖וֹל וּגְב֑וּל זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל יָֽם׃
7This shall be your northern boundary: from the Great Sea mark out a line to Mount Hor,
וְזֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֣וּל צָפ֑וֹן מִן־הַיָּם֙ הַגָּדֹ֔ל תְּתָא֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם הֹ֥ר הָהָֽר׃
8and from Mount Hor mark out a line to Lebo Hamath, and the boundary shall end at Zedad.
מֵהֹ֣ר הָהָ֔ר תְּתָא֖וּ לְבֹ֣א חֲמָ֑ת וְהָי֛וּ תּוֹצְאֹ֥ת הַגְּבֻ֖ל צְדָֽדָה׃
9Then the boundary shall go on to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This shall be your northern boundary.
וְיָצָ֤א הַגְּבֻל֙ זִפְרֹ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו חֲצַ֣ר עֵינָ֑ן זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל צָפֽוֹן׃
10For your eastern boundary, mark out a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.
וְהִתְאַוִּיתֶ֥ם לָכֶ֖ם לִגְב֣וּל קֵ֑דְמָה מֵחֲצַ֥ר עֵינָ֖ן שְׁפָֽמָה׃
11The boundary shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue down until it touches the eastern slope of the Sea of Kinnereth.
וְיָרַ֨ד הַגְּבֻ֧ל מִשְּׁפָ֛ם הָרִבְלָ֖ה מִקֶּ֣דֶם לָעָ֑יִן וְיָרַ֣ד הַגְּב֔וּל וּמָחָ֛ה עַל־כֶּ֥תֶף יָם־כִּנֶּ֖רֶת קֵֽדְמָה׃
12Then the boundary shall go down along the Jordan and end at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land, with its boundaries on every side.
וְיָרַ֤ד הַגְּבוּל֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו יָ֣ם הַמֶּ֑לַח זֹאת֩ תִּהְיֶ֨ה לָכֶ֥ם הָאָ֛רֶץ לִגְבֻלֹתֶ֖יהָ סָבִֽיב׃
13Moses commanded the Israelites: This is the land you are to receive as your inheritance by lot, the land the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes.
וַיְצַ֣ו מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר זֹ֣את הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּתְנַחֲל֤וּ אֹתָהּ֙ בְּגוֹרָ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה לָתֵ֛ת לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֥י הַמַּטֶּֽה׃
16The LORD said to Moses:
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
17These are the names of the men who shall divide the land among you as your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
אֵ֚לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־יִנְחֲל֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ אֶלְעָזָר֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נֽוּן׃
18You shall also take one leader, one leader from each tribe, to apportion the land as an inheritance.
וְנָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֛ד נָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֖ד מִמַּטֶּ֑ה תִּקְח֖וּ לִנְחֹ֥ל אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
