King's Harem Overseer
Hegai was the court official in charge of King Ahasuerus' harem in Susa. He played an important role in Esther's life by showing her special favor and helping her with preparations before she met the king. His goodwill contributed to Esther being chosen as queen.

Hegai was appointed to oversee all the young virgins gathered for the king's harem as candidates to become queen.
3Let the king appoint officers in every province of his kingdom to gather every beautiful young virgin to the citadel of Susa, to the harem, under the care of Hegai, the king's eunuch who keeps the women, and let their beauty treatments be provided.
וְיַפְקֵ֨ד הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ פְּקִידִים֮ בְּכָל־מְדִינ֣וֹת מַלְכוּתוֹ֒ וְיִקְבְּצ֣וּ אֶת־כָּל־נַעֲרָֽה־בְ֠תוּלָה טוֹבַ֨ת מַרְאֶ֜ה אֶל־שׁוּשַׁ֤ן הַבִּירָה֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הַנָּשִׁ֔ים אֶל־יַ֥ד הֵגֶ֛א סְרִ֥יס הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ שֹׁמֵ֣ר הַנָּשִׁ֑ים וְנָת֖וֹן תַּמְרוּקֵיהֶֽן׃
8So when the king's order and decree were proclaimed and many young women were gathered to the citadel of Susa under Hegai's care, Esther too was taken to the king's palace, into the care of Hegai, keeper of the women.
וַיְהִ֗י בְּהִשָּׁמַ֤ע דְּבַר־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְדָת֔וֹ וּֽבְהִקָּבֵ֞ץ נְעָר֥וֹת רַבּ֛וֹת אֶל־שׁוּשַׁ֥ן הַבִּירָ֖ה אֶל־יַ֣ד הֵגָ֑י וַתִּלָּקַ֤ח אֶסְתֵּר֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֶל־יַ֥ד הֵגַ֖י שֹׁמֵ֥ר הַנָּשִֽׁים׃
Shows favor to Esther
When Esther came under Hegai's care, she won his favor. He quickly arranged for her to receive beauty treatments, special food, and seven maidservants, and gave her the best place in the harem.
9The young woman pleased him and won his favor, so he quickly provided her with her beauty treatments and her portions of food, along with seven chosen maids from the king's palace, and he moved her and her maids to the best place in the harem.
וַתִּיטַ֨ב הַנַּעֲרָ֣ה בְעֵינָיו֮ וַתִּשָּׂ֣א חֶ֣סֶד לְפָנָיו֒ וַ֠יְבַהֵל אֶת־תַּמְרוּקֶ֤יהָ וְאֶת־מָנוֹתֶ֙הָ֙ לָתֵ֣ת לָ֔הּ וְאֵת֙ שֶׁ֣בַע הַנְּעָר֔וֹת הָרְאֻי֥וֹת לָֽתֶת־לָ֖הּ מִבֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיְשַׁנֶּ֧הָ וְאֶת־נַעֲרוֹתֶ֛יהָ לְט֖וֹב בֵּ֥ית הַנָּשִֽׁים׃
Advises Esther before meeting the king
When it was Esther's turn to go in to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai recommended. This shows that she trusted his advice and guidance.
15When the turn came for Esther, the daughter of Abihail, the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his own daughter, to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai, the king's eunuch who kept the women, advised. And Esther won the admiration of everyone who saw her.
וּבְהַגִּ֣יעַ תֹּר־אֶסְתֵּ֣ר בַּת־אֲבִיחַ֣יִל דֹּ֣ד מָרְדֳּכַ֡י אֲשֶׁר֩ לָקַֽח־ל֨וֹ לְבַ֜ת לָב֣וֹא אֶל־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ לֹ֤א בִקְשָׁה֙ דָּבָ֔ר כִּ֠י אִ֣ם אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֹאמַ֛ר הֵגַ֥י סְרִיס־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ שֹׁמֵ֣ר הַנָּשִׁ֑ים וַתְּהִ֤י אֶסְתֵּר֙ נֹשֵׂ֣את חֵ֔ן בְּעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־רֹאֶֽיהָ׃
