Jairus was a synagogue ruler in Capernaum who came to Jesus in desperate prayer, asking that his dying daughter be healed. His faith was tested when his daughter died while Jesus was on the way, but he experienced the great miracle when Jesus raised her from the dead.
While Jesus was busy healing the woman with the issue of blood, a message came from Jairus' house that his daughter had died and that it was useless to trouble the Master any further.
35While he was still speaking, messengers came from the house of the synagogue leader and said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?"
Jesus ignored the news of death and said these famous words to Jairus: 'Do not be afraid; only believe!' This required Jairus to hold on to his faith even when all hope seemed lost.
Jesus went in to the dead girl, took her by the hand, and said 'Talita kumi' (Little girl, get up!), and she immediately came back to life, bringing great joy to her parents.
