Abraham's son and ancestor of the Midianites
Midian was one of Abraham's sons by his second wife Keturah. He became the ancestor of the Midianites, a nomadic people who lived in the areas east of the Jordan and south of Edom. The Midianites played a significant role in Israel's early history, both as allies and enemies.

Birth of Midian
Midian was born as the son of Abraham and his wife Keturah, after Sarah's death.
1Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah.
וַיֹּ֧סֶף אַבְרָהָ֛ם וַיִּקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה וּשְׁמָ֥הּ קְטוּרָֽה׃
2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֗וֹ אֶת־זִמְרָן֙ וְאֶת־יָקְשָׁ֔ן וְאֶת־מְדָ֖ן וְאֶת־מִדְיָ֑ן וְאֶת־יִשְׁבָּ֖ק וְאֶת־שֽׁוּחַ׃
Received gifts from Abraham
Abraham gave gifts to Midian and his brothers, and sent them eastward while he was still alive, to secure Isaac's inheritance rights.
5Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac.
וַיִּתֵּ֧ן אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֖וֹ לְיִצְחָֽק׃
6But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still alive he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the land of the east.
וְלִבְנֵ֤י הַפִּֽילַגְשִׁים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאַבְרָהָ֔ם נָתַ֥ן אַבְרָהָ֖ם מַתָּנֹ֑ת וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵ֞ם מֵעַ֨ל יִצְחָ֤ק בּנוֹ֙ בְּעוֹדֶ֣נּוּ חַ֔י קֵ֖דְמָה אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ קֶֽדֶם׃
The sons of Midian
Midian had five sons: Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida, and Eldaah. These became the ancestors of the various clans of the Midianites.
4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
וּבְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֗ן עֵיפָ֤ה וָעֵ֙פֶר֙ וַחֲנֹ֔ךְ וַאֲבִידָ֖ע וְאֶלְדָּעָ֑ה כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י קְטוּרָֽה׃
