Wall Builder in Jerusalem

Palal, son of Uzai, was one of those who participated in the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls under Nehemiah's leadership. He repaired a section of the wall next to the projecting part of the palace and the watchtower. His contribution is mentioned in the book of Nehemiah as part of the collective effort to restore the city after the exile.

Rebuilding of Jerusalem's Wall

Palal, son of Uzai, repaired a section of the wall opposite the projecting tower and the upper palace near the guardhouse. His work was an important part of the overall effort to restore Jerusalem's defenses.

Nehemiah's Organization of the Work

Nehemiah organized the people into groups to rebuild different sections of the wall. Palal was among the many volunteers who took responsibility for their assigned section.

1Then Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests set to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors in place, and they consecrated the wall as far as the Tower of the Hundred, all the way to the Tower of Hananel.

Opposition to the Rebuilding

The workers, including Palal, faced opposition from enemies such as Sanballat and Tobiah, but continued their work with determination and faith.

1When Sanballat and Tobiah, along with the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the men of Ashdod, heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem was moving ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were furious.

Armed Work on the Wall

Due to threats from enemies, the wall builders, likely including Palal, worked with weapons beside them while building, ready to defend themselves.

Completion of the Wall

After 52 days, Jerusalem's wall was completed, made possible by the efforts of all the workers, including Palal and his associates.
