Service during the time of Joiakim

Piltai served as a priestly leader during the period when Joiakim was high priest, an important time for the rebuilding of religious life in Judah.

12In the days of Joiakim these were the priests who were heads of the fathers' houses: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah;

Preservation of priestly lineages

The registration of Pilat as head of the family was part of the systematic work to preserve priestly lineages and ensure lawful temple service after the exile.

22As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the heads of the fathers' houses were recorded, as were the priests, down to the reign of Darius the Persian.

23The sons of Levi who were heads of the fathers' houses were recorded in the Book of the Chronicles until the days of Johanan son of Eliashib.
