Zichri was a mighty warrior from the tribe of Ephraim who served under Pekah, king of Israel. During the war between the Northern Kingdom (Israel) and the Southern Kingdom (Judah), Zichri killed three prominent men from Judah: Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the palace administrator, and Elkanah, who was second only to the king in authority.

During King Pekah's war against King Ahaz of Judah, Zichri fought as a mighty warrior from Ephraim on Israel's side.

6In a single day Pekah son of Remaliah killed a hundred and twenty thousand men in Judah, all of them seasoned soldiers, because they had abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Zichri also killed Azrikam, who was the administrator over the king's palace in Judah.

Zichri killed Elkanah, who was the second most powerful man after the king in Judah, demonstrating his strength in battle.

Israel's Victory over Judah

Zichri's deeds were part of a greater military victory in which Israel defeated Judah, inflicting a massive loss of 120,000 men in one day, because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

5So the LORD his God handed him over to the king of Aram, who defeated him, took a great many of his people captive, and brought them to Damascus. He was also handed over to the king of Israel, who struck him a heavy blow.
