The Death of Aaron and the Selection of Levi
On their journey through the wilderness, the Israelites came to Mosera, where Aaron died and was buried. His son Eleazar succeeded him as priest. They then traveled on to Gudgodah and Jotbathah, a land with flowing streams. At that time, the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant, to stand before the Lord, to serve Him, and to bless in His name. Therefore, Levi received no portion or inheritance among his brothers; the Lord Himself is his inheritance.
Femte Moseboken 10,6-9
6Now the Israelites set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and there he was buried, and his son Eleazar became priest in his place.
וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל נָֽ[m]סְע֛וּ מִבְּאֵרֹ֥ת בְּנֵי־יַעֲקָ֖ן מוֹסֵרָ֑ה שָׁ֣ם מֵ֤ת אַהֲרֹן֙ וַיִּקָּבֵ֣ר שָׁ֔ם וַיְכַהֵ֛ן אֶלְעָזָ֥ר בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃
7From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of flowing streams.
מִשָּׁ֥ם נָסְע֖וּ הַגֻּדְגֹּ֑דָה וּמִן־הַגֻּדְגֹּ֣דָה יָטְבָ֔תָה אֶ֖רֶץ נַ֥חֲלֵי מָֽיִם׃
8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve him, and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they do to this day.
בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֗וא הִבְדִּ֤יל יְהוָה֙ אֶת־שֵׁ֣בֶט הַלֵּוִ֔י לָשֵׂ֖את אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֑ה לַעֲמֹד֩ לִפְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֤ה לְשָֽׁרְתוֹ֙ וּלְבָרֵ֣ךְ בִּשְׁמ֔וֹ עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
9That is why Levi has no share or inheritance alongside his brothers; the LORD himself is his inheritance, as the LORD your God told him.
עַל־כֵּ֞ן לֹֽא־הָיָ֧ה לְלֵוִ֛י חֵ֥לֶק וְנַחֲלָ֖ה עִם־אֶחָ֑יו יְהוָה֙ ה֣וּא נַחֲלָת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ לֽוֹ׃
