The Lord's Promise of Healing and Restoration
God urges Israel to turn back and promises to heal their apostasy, love them freely, and make them blossom like a lily. Hosea ends the book with an image of God's grace, where the Lord is like dew and a green cypress, along with an appeal for wisdom regarding the Lord's right ways.
Hosea 14,2-9
2Return, Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have stumbled because of your guilt.
3Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: "Forgive all our guilt and receive us with favor, and we will offer the praise of our lips in place of bulls.
4Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on horses, and we will never again say 'Our God' to the work of our own hands. For in you the orphan finds mercy."
5I will heal their faithlessness; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.
6I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like the lily and sink his roots deep like the trees of Lebanon.
7His shoots will spread out; his splendor will be like the olive tree, his fragrance like Lebanon.
8Those who dwell in his shade will return; they will flourish like grain and blossom like the vine, and his fame will be like the wine of Lebanon.
9Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? I am the one who answers him and watches over him. I am like a flourishing cypress; from me comes your fruit.
