Jesus' Brothers and the Feast of Tabernacles
The Feast of Tabernacles was approaching, and Jesus' brothers wanted him to go up to Judea and show himself openly to the world, for they did not believe in him. Jesus answered: "My time has not yet come, but for you it is always the right time. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its deeds are evil." His brothers went up to the feast, but Jesus remained in Galilee.
Johannesevangeliet 7,1-9
1After this Jesus traveled about in Galilee. He had no wish to go about in Judea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to kill him.
Καὶ ⸂μετὰ ταῦτα περιεπάτει ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ, οὐ γὰρ ἤθελεν ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ περιπατεῖν, ὅτι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἀποκτεῖναι.
2Now the Jewish Festival of Booths was near,
ἦν δὲ ἐγγὺς ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἡ σκηνοπηγία.
3so his brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples can see the works you are doing.
εἶπον οὖν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ· Μετάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ὕπαγε εἰς τὴν Ἰουδαίαν, ἵνα καὶ οἱ μαθηταί σου ⸀θεωρήσουσιν ⸂σοῦ τὰ ἔργα⸃ ἃ ποιεῖς·
4For no one acts in secret while wanting to be known in public. If you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.
οὐδεὶς γάρ ⸂τι ἐν κρυπτῷ⸃ ποιεῖ καὶ ζητεῖ αὐτὸς ἐν παρρησίᾳ εἶναι· εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, φανέρωσον σεαυτὸν τῷ κόσμῳ.
5For not even his brothers believed in him.
οὐδὲ γὰρ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπίστευον εἰς αὐτόν.
6So Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come. For you, any time is right.
λέγει οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πάρεστιν, ὁ δὲ καιρὸς ὁ ὑμέτερος πάντοτέ ἐστιν ἕτοιμος.
7The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I testify that its works are evil.
οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ, ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν.
8You go up to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come."
ὑμεῖς ἀνάβητε εἰς τὴν ⸀ἑορτήν· ἐγὼ ⸀οὐκ ἀναβαίνω εἰς τὴν ἑορτὴν ταύτην, ὅτι ὁ ⸂ἐμὸς καιρὸς⸃ οὔπω πεπλήρωται.
9After saying this, he stayed on in Galilee.
ταῦτα ⸀δὲ εἰπὼν ⸀αὐτὸς ἔμεινεν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ.
