Jesus is Brought to Trial before Caiaphas

Jesus is taken to the high priest Caiaphas, where the Council seeks false testimony against him. Finally, two witnesses claim he said he could destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. When the high priest puts him under oath, Jesus confirms that he is the Christ, the Son of God, and speaks of the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power. He is found guilty of blasphemy and sentenced to death, then spat upon and beaten.

Matteusevangeliet 26,57-68

57Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.
58Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest. He went inside and sat down with the guards to see how it would end.
59Meanwhile the chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death,
60but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward
61and said, "This man said, 'I can tear down the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.'"
62The high priest stood up and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this testimony they bring against you?"
καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;
63But Jesus remained silent. So the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God."
64Jesus said to him, "You have said it. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven."
65Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? You have just heard the blasphemy.
66What is your verdict?" They answered, "He deserves death."
67Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him
68and said, "Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit you?"
λέγοντες· Προφήτευσον ἡμῖν, χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε;
