Mary and Martha
Jesus arrives in a village where Martha welcomes him into her home. Her sister Mary sits at the Lord's feet and listens to his words, while Martha is busy with all she has to do. Martha complains to Jesus that her sister has left her alone to serve, and asks him to tell Mary to help her. Jesus answers: "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken from her."
Lukasevangeliet 10,38-42
38As they went on their way, Jesus entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.
⸂Ἐν δὲ⸃ τῷ πορεύεσθαι ⸀αὐτοὺς αὐτὸς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς κώμην τινά· γυνὴ δέ τις ὀνόματι Μάρθα ὑπεδέξατο ⸀αὐτὸν.
39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his word.
καὶ τῇδε ἦν ἀδελφὴ καλουμένη ⸀Μαριάμ, ἣ καὶ ⸂παρακαθεσθεῖσα πρὸς⸃ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ ⸀Ἰησοῦ ἤκουεν τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ.
40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations. She came to him and said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!"
ἡ δὲ Μάρθα περιεσπᾶτο περὶ πολλὴν διακονίαν· ἐπιστᾶσα δὲ εἶπεν· Κύριε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἡ ἀδελφή μου μόνην με ⸀κατέλειπεν διακονεῖν; ⸀εἰπὲ οὖν αὐτῇ ἵνα μοι συναντιλάβηται.
41The Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,
ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ⸀κύριος· Μάρθα Μάρθα, μεριμνᾷς καὶ ⸀θορυβάζῃ περὶ πολλά,
42but few things are needed—indeed, only one. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her."
⸂ὀλίγων δέ ἐστιν χρεία ἢ ἑνός⸃· ⸂Μαριὰμ γὰρ⸃ τὴν ἀγαθὴν μερίδα ἐξελέξατο ἥτις οὐκ ἀφαιρεθήσεται ⸀αὐτῆς.
