Paul asks to speak to the people
When Paul was about to be taken into the fortress after being rescued from the mob, he asked the commander for permission to speak. The commander was surprised that he could speak Greek and thought he was the Egyptian who had led a revolt with four thousand sicarii. Paul replied that he was a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia, and was granted permission to speak. From the steps he gestured with his hand, and when it became quiet, he spoke to the people in Hebrew.

37As he was about to be taken into the barracks, Paul said to the commander, "May I say something to you?" "Do you know Greek?" he replied.
Μέλλων τε εἰσάγεσθαι εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ὁ Παῦλος λέγει τῷ χιλιάρχῳ· Εἰ ἔξεστίν μοι εἰπεῖν ⸀τι πρὸς σέ; ὁ δὲ ἔφη· Ἑλληνιστὶ γινώσκεις;
38"Aren't you the Egyptian who started a revolt some time ago and led four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?"
οὐκ ἄρα σὺ εἶ ὁ Αἰγύπτιος ὁ πρὸ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀναστατώσας καὶ ἐξαγαγὼν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τοὺς τετρακισχιλίους ἄνδρας τῶν σικαρίων;
39Paul answered, "I am a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people."
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Παῦλος· Ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος μέν εἰμι Ἰουδαῖος, Ταρσεὺς τῆς Κιλικίας, οὐκ ἀσήμου πόλεως πολίτης· δέομαι δέ σου, ἐπίτρεψόν μοι λαλῆσαι πρὸς τὸν λαόν.
40When he had given him permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the people with his hand. A deep silence fell, and he addressed them in Aramaic:
ἐπιτρέψαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ Παῦλος ἑστὼς ἐπὶ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν κατέσεισε τῇ χειρὶ τῷ λαῷ, πολλῆς δὲ σιγῆς γενομένης ⸀προσεφώνησεν τῇ Ἑβραΐδι διαλέκτῳ λέγων
