Paul in Chains and the Advance of the Gospel
Paul tells from his prison how his chains have led to the spread of the gospel throughout the praetorium, and how even opponents preach Christ, which still serves God's purpose.
Filipperbrevet 1,12-18
12I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.
13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
14And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have grown confident in the Lord and dare all the more to speak the word without fear.
15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
16These do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
17The others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing they can stir up trouble for me in my chains.
18But what does it matter? The point is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed—and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will go on rejoicing,
