Paul and Apollos: God's Fellow Workers

Paul warns the carnal Corinthians against dividing into factions around human leaders, using the image of a field where he planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.

Första Korinthierbrevet 3,1-9

1And I, brothers, could not speak to you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.
2I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. And even now you are not ready,
3for you are still worldly. For where there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly, living like mere human beings?
ἔτι γὰρ σαρκικοί ἐστε. ὅπου γὰρ ἐν ὑμῖν ζῆλος καὶ ⸀ἔρις, οὐχὶ σαρκικοί ἐστε καὶ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον περιπατεῖτε;
4For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not merely human?
ὅταν γὰρ λέγῃ τις· Ἐγὼ μέν εἰμι Παύλου, ἕτερος δέ· Ἐγὼ Ἀπολλῶ, ⸂οὐκ ἄνθρωποί⸃ ἐστε;
5What, then, is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, each as the Lord assigned him.
6I planted, Apollos watered, but God made it grow.
7So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes it grow.
8The one who plants and the one who waters are one, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
