The Sun of Righteousness and the Coming of Elijah
The prophecy concerns the burning day of judgment, where the arrogant and unrighteous will be like chaff, while the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in its wings for those who fear the name of the Lord. The righteous shall tread down the unrighteous, who will become as ashes. The message concludes with an exhortation to remember the Law of Moses given at Horeb, and a promise that the prophet Elijah will be sent before the great and dreadful day of the Lord to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.
Malaki 3,19-24
19For look, the day is coming, burning like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, leaving them neither root nor branch.
כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֤ה הַיּוֹם֙ בָּ֔א בֹּעֵ֖ר כַּתַּנּ֑וּר וְהָי֨וּ כָל־זֵדִ֜ים וְכָל־עֹשֵׂ֤ה רִשְׁעָה֙ קַ֔שׁ וְלִהַ֨ט אֹתָ֜ם הַיּ֣וֹם הַבָּ֗א אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא־יַעֲזֹ֥ב לָהֶ֖ם שֹׁ֥רֶשׁ וְעָנָֽף׃
20But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out leaping like calves released from the stall.
וְזָרְחָ֨ה לָכֶ֜ם יִרְאֵ֤י שְׁמִי֙ שֶׁ֣מֶשׁ צְדָקָ֔ה וּמַרְפֵּ֖א בִּכְנָפֶ֑יהָ וִֽיצָאתֶ֥ם וּפִשְׁתֶּ֖ם כְּעֶגְלֵ֥י מַרְבֵּֽק׃
21You will trample the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act, says the LORD of hosts.
וְעַסּוֹתֶ֣ם רְשָׁעִ֔ים כִּֽי־יִהְי֣וּ אֵ֔פֶר תַּ֖חַת כַּפּ֣וֹת רַגְלֵיכֶ֑ם בַּיּוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲנִ֣י עֹשֶׂ֔ה אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃ פ
22Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and judgments I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
זִכְר֕וּ תּוֹרַ֖ת מֹשֶׁ֣ה עַבְדִּ֑י אֲשֶׁר֩ צִוִּ֨יתִי אוֹת֤וֹ בְחֹרֵב֙ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל חֻקִּ֖ים וּמִשְׁפָּטִֽים׃
23Look, I am sending you Elijah the prophet before the great and dreadful day of the LORD comes.
הִנֵּ֤ה אָֽנֹכִי֙ שֹׁלֵ֣חַ לָכֶ֔ם אֵ֖ת אֵלִיָּ֣ה הַנָּבִ֑יא לִפְנֵ֗י בּ֚וֹא י֣וֹם יְהוָ֔ה הַגָּד֖וֹל וְהַנּוֹרָֽא׃
24He will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers; otherwise I will come and strike the land with utter destruction.
וְהֵשִׁ֤יב לֵב־אָבוֹת֙ עַל־בָּנִ֔ים וְלֵ֥ב בָּנִ֖ים עַל־אֲבוֹתָ֑ם פֶּן־אָב֕וֹא וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י אֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ חֵֽרֶם׃
